What is the difference between a civil ceremony and a nondenominational ceremony?
A civil ceremony is a beautiful ceremony that doesn't reference God or any another spiritual deity. Civil ceremonies may have traditional or contemporary readings and there are no prayers or blessings.
A nondenominational ceremony is typically Christian, without adhering to any particular denomination (Catholic, Baptist, etc.). A nondenominational ceremony may have traditional, Christian and/or contemporary readings.
A spiritual ceremony is a beautiful ceremony that incorporates traditions, blessings, and/or prayers of non-christian faiths. IE: Muslim or Buddhist.
Interfaith / Intercultural ceremonies incorporate traditions, blessings, and/or prayers from more than one faith or culture. IE: Buddhist + Christian elements, African + Hispanic cultures.

What happens if our officiant is suddenly ill and can't perform our wedding?
At no additional cost to the couple, when a couple reserves with Affinity Celebrations, we ensure that two officiants are available to cover unforeseen emergencies. Your wedding should not be affected by an emergency with your officiant. We make this guarantee in writing. No other officiant or minister in the Miami Valley guarantees a replacement so your wedding is unaffected.
An example of an emergency is a sudden illness for which your officiant is hospitalized or a death in his/her family.

Do your fees include the required marriage license?
No. Marriage licenses must be purchased through the county probate court where you reside and your marriage may be solemnized in any Ohio county. Out-of-state couples can obtain a marriage license in the county where your wedding will take place.

Do you require premarital seminars or religious counseling?
No. You will never be asked to participate in premarital counseling or seminars by an Affinity Celebrations Minister or Wedding Officiant.

Would you allow another Officiant (possibly of a different religion or a close friend) to lead part of the ceremony? Yes. Anyone you choose may co-officiate, read special selections, etc.

Are we allowed to write our own wedding vows or must we use the traditional vows?
You may write your own vows, provide vows you have discovered on the Internet, or choose one of our selections.
|
Can we use contemporary readings or are they required to be religious or scripture readings?
Contemporary, religious, non-religious and spiritual readings are all welcome. You are limited only by your imagination!

Do you provide a contract?
Yes. Any wedding officiant or minister you are considering should offer you the protection a contract affords. Without a contract, you have no legal recourse should your officiant fail to perform your wedding and/or solemnize your marriage.
|
Are you registered with the state?
Yes. All Ministers, Wedding Officiants, and Celebrants are licensed by the Ohio Secretary of State. A copy of your Officiant's license to solemnize marriages is provided to all couples. You can also search the Secretary of State's website to ensure that your minister or officiant is licensed.

|
Will you permit our children to take an active part in the wedding ceremony?
Absolutely! We encourage couples to incorporate their children into the ceremony. Marriage ceremonies are about the creation of a new family. We enjoy working with children and teenagers to make them a part of your special day.

How much control do we have with the script?
This is your celebration. We work with you to achieve your vision for your wedding celebration. All scripts are created by the couple, with guidance from the Wedding Officiant. You have final approval of the script and are in complete control of the creative process.
